Get sleep especially in the beginning when you're trying to keto adapt your body needs that extra rest to switch over once you're fully keto adapted you probably won't notice that you don't need as much sleep as you used.
Change your mindset. You need to realize that the food that you eat that you're putting into your body helps determine the health of your body and for overall optimum performance, so if you want to put in the best fuel source that is going to be eating a high-fat low-carb diet.
Don't skip exercise; move every day, even if it's only walking or resistance training, as it has so many advantages, including improved cardiovascular endurance, bone and muscle health, and more.
Make it easy to follow
- Find keto versions of your favorite dishes
- Have a ton of your favorite keto recipes on hand
- Find recipes that your family will enjoy even if they don't follow the keto diet because it's just so much simpler to cook one meal for everyone rather than two.
- Batch cooking is also important, so prepare a lot of stuff
Reduce Temptations
- Limit the keto desserts because they might lead to more cravings and they just are unnecessary calories; it's okay to have them occasionally, especially if you're just starting out.
- It will also be much easier if your spouse adopts the diet, as it will reduce temptation.
- Get rid of all of your favorite non-keto meals by keeping them out of the house entirely.
- You can also clean out your cupboards by just removing non-keto goods. Replace them with keto versions of those items.
Look out for hidden calories
- Some foods may have one or two extra grams of sugar; this may be acceptable if you only eat a small amount, but it's easy to overdo it and you never know if it will cause a sugar craving, especially if you're just starting out or if you have severe insulin resistance.
- Some salad dressings they all tend to have like one or two grams of carbs of sugar per serving so once again it's easy to go overboard on it and we'll use a little bit too much look for ones that are low sugar varieties.
Tracking your Ketones
- You don't need to take keto pills or drink ketone supplement drinks to maintain your ketones and be in ketosis.
- Testing your ketones is advised but not required. If you're just getting started or if you occasionally eat something and feel off or a little sleepy. Then you can test your ketones.
- There are several ways to test, including urine, blood, and a breathalyzer; they all measure different types of ketone bodies.
- If you're just starting out and want something inexpensive, however, perform a urine test. These tests are called keto sticks or ketone test strips and are widely available at pharmacies.
